Jiyong Lee has been heading the Glass program at Southern Illinois University since 2005. He earned his MFA at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2001 and taught there for four years as a Visiting Assistant Professor before coming to Southern Illinois University. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Glass Art Society. His exhibitions show nationally and internationally including SOFA New York, SOFA Chicago, Cheongju International Craft Biennale 2007 in Korea, and several galleries in the United States.
In 
2005, Professor Lee received the Emerging Artist Award from the Glass Art Society and the Saxe Award in 2004 from Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, WA. He was selected in the New Glass Review 32 and 24 of the Corning Museum of Glass. He has given lectures and demonstrations as a Visiting Artist in many places including Pilchuck Glass School, Stanwood, WA; the Studio of the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH; Penland School of of Crafts, Penland, NC; Pittsburgh Glass Center, Pittsburgh, PA; and Kook-Min University, Seoul, Korea.
Professor Lee was born and raised in Korea. His education in both Korea and the United States represents two different cultural perspectives that have prepared him to educate students who come from diverse backgrounds. Having his feet in both cultures has also broadened his personal aesthetics and appreciation for different ways of thinking. He specializes in cold-working and kiln-forming processes.
